Crispy Air Fryer tofu – super tasty basic recipe

Ingredients needed for Crispy Air Fried tofu

  • 400 g firm tofu natural or with almonds
  • 4 tbs soy sauce 
  • 2 tbs sesame oil or other
  • 2 cloves garlic pressed or minced
  • chili flakes (optional)

Crispy air fryer tofu is as you can imagine, tofu cooked in an air fryer. This is a delicious and healthy alternative to traditional deep-fried tofu. Not only does the tofu have a satisfying crunch, but it also retains its nutritional value as it is not saturated in oil.

I tried tofu in many different ways and really like adding it to different meals. I find it especially suitable adding it to Asian inspired dishes but not only. But I must say I like tofu when it is crispy and flavorful, but very often when eating out I get tofu that is chewy and dull in taste.

I often heard the expression ” I tried tofu, but I did not like it”. And I would say tofu is like flour. There are so many different ways to use it and it can taste amazing, but if you try eating without adding any taste, and without cooking it, it might not taste amazing.

To prepare crispy tofu in an air fryer, start by pressing the tofu to remove any excess water. This is always the first step to take if we want to cook tofu and make it taste crispy. Then, cut the tofu into bite-sized pieces and season it with your favorite spices or marinade. Place the seasoned tofu in the air fryer basket, making sure to leave space between each piece. Cook the tofu at 375°F for 10-15 minutes, flipping the pieces halfway through.

Crispy tofu cooked in an air fryer can be used in a variety of dishes, such as stir-fries, curries, salads, and sandwiches. It adds a satisfying texture and protein boost to any meal. Plus, it is a great option for those following a vegetarian or vegan diet.

Tofu itself is a healthy source of protein, and when cooked in an air fryer, it contains fewer calories and less fat than traditional deep-fried tofu. Additionally, air fryers require minimal to no added oil, making them a healthier cooking option overall. I have my air fryer for a few years now, and I use it quite often, but I still test many recipes and try to adjust them, so I can use my air fryer even more often.

Crispy Air Fryer Tofu

This crispy air fryer tofu is a great addition to salads, stir fries and Thai curries. You will love it!
Servings 4 portions


  • 400 g firm tofu natural or with almonds
  • 4 tbs soy sauce
  • 2 tbs sesame oil or other oil
  • 2 cloves garlic pressed or minced
  • pinch chili flakes optional


  • First, press the tofu. As I do not have a tofu-press, I wrap it in a kitchen towel and place a heavy object on top of it. This is to allow the liquid to come out and then become crispy. I leave it like that for 15 minutes. Use a tofu-press if you have one.
  • Put the rest of the ingredients in a small bowl and mix them well. Then put it in a bowl or a small rectangular pan
  • Cut the tofu into cubes with a side of about 1 cm and arrange them in the bowl with the marinade. Leave it to marinate for 10-15 minutes, and having more time, let it marinate longer. Turn the cubes every few minutes so that they absorb the marinade evenly. During this time, turn on the air fryer to heat up to 190°C.
  • Arrange the tofu cubes in the basket of the fryer in a single row and if possible leave some space between them. Bake them for 10–12 minutes by 190 °C (375 °F) until golden.
